Proposed Club Extension Work

Some of you may or may not be aware that for the past 12-18 months the committee, lead by Gareth and Dilan, have been in the process of making an application to extend the upstairs of the club.  The application has been through RCT council planning department and the approval has been granted on a first storey rear extension.    The funds to carry out this work have been sought through exhausting every avenue of possible grants/community funds, and a lot of hard work, but we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The proposals are to remove the existing kitchen, currently within the porta cabin on the rear roof, and extend the upstairs to complete the footprint of downstairs.  The refurbishment will enhance the life of the building for the benefit of the community by providing a players’ lounge, new toilets, storage area, a staged area and modern kitchen facilities.

‘The extension will feature a gable end with a pitched roof and from a design perspective will result in a much improved visual appearance to the club. It is proposed that the extension is constructed from concrete Marley major brown roof tiles to match the existing roof (which it will tie into), render and black rainwater goods, and the existing steel fire escape / external staircase will be repositioned to accommodate the extension.’

‘Local contractors will be employed in the construction and erection of the of the extension and the materials will be sourced locally in order to reduce the carbon footprint of the development. The material and finish chosen (to match the existing building) will respond to and withstand environmental changes over time. The energy efficiency of the property will not be improved by the addition of the extension. The extension is considered to contribute to environmental sustainability by developing an existing community facility and ensuring the longevity of the use of the property.’

From the images you can see the existing and proposed layouts, which I think you will agree will enhance the usability of the space and provide a superb addition to our ever improving clubhouse.

We look forward to continuing with the planned improvements, with a view to starting work on the extension at the end of the current 2016-17 season.  With a bit of luck the ‘new’ clubhouse will also need to make room for some silverware, with the 1sts, 2nds and Youth all aiming for glory on more than one front this season.

Further updates will be posted as and when we get them!
