Saturday 24th July - Rhydyfelin v Abercynon - Steve Dixon Memorial Match

Rhydyfelin v Abercynon - Steve Dixon Memorial Match

On Saturday Abercynon RFC will make the short journey down to play in the Steve Dixon Memorial match at Hawthorn Recreation Ground.  As you'll no doubt be aware Steve was taken from us at just 40 years of age just before Christmas and both clubs have decided, along with his family, that this fixture would be a fitting way to remember a player who is fondly remembered by both clubs.

In the late 1990s Steve emerged through the Abercynon youth team set up playing in the back row. Later in the decade after Steve moved on to Rhydyfelin RFC where he was able to gain a more regular first team place, playing in both the second row and back row.  Steve was part of a number of Rhydyfelin title winning sides and played in the Silver Ball final at Sardis Road.

We hope that this fixture will celebrate the life of someone who was not only well respected on the field but also as a friend and true gentleman off it.   Please join us, while adhering to current social distance guidelines, in remembering Steve who is and always will be sorely missed by his many friends and colleagues.

Kick off on Saturday will be at 2pm, with the British and Irish Lions game shown live at the club from 5pm.
