The Village start with a BP Win

Rhydyfelin RFC  32 v Brynmawr RFC 11

This game was played in terrible conditions; Brynmawr took an early lead through a penalty.  Rhydyfelin quickly got back on track through their forwards with a great driving maul from the 22-meter line for number 8 Kieron Phillips to score wide out.  A well worked backs move then split the away defence with no hands placed on try scorer Luke Rees to score, Captain Lewis Smith added the conversion to make it 12-3 to Rhydyfelin.

Rhydyfelin then extended their lead with a penalty for Lewis Smith after Brynmawr killed the ball on the 22, with a warning issued.

Brynmawr then worked themselves into a good position only to be held up over the try line. The resulting five-meter scrum was excellently taken against the head as the Rhyd pack drove Brynmawr off the ball, a calamity of errors as Rhydyfelin tried to run from their home line resulted in a charged down kick falling into the hands of the Brynmawr winger to fall over the line and score. Brynmawr’s tails were up now and a 2nd penalty for offside made the score 15-11 at half time with Rhydyfelin wondering how they had let Brynmawr back into the game.

Normal service was resumed in the 2nd half as excellent flanker Kyle Perry crashed over as the pack regained their dominance, Lewis Smith converting to make it 22-11. The weather really turned for the worse now but both teams tried to play rugby that was well officiated by Tim Davies. Ross Lucas on at half time put a lovely grubber kick through the away defence to gather and score for a bonus point making it 27-11 going into the final quarter. A fine move with winger Jordan Rees crashing over in the corner was the final score of the game resulting in a well-deserved 32-11 victory.
